Cardinal John Tong, Msgr. Alvaro Izurieta y Sea, clerics, religious sisters and close to 500 faithful and friends indulged themselves in an evening of songs dedicated to Mother Mary on 13 August 2021 at The Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre, HKAPA.
The event began with Ave Maris Stella, pointing us through Mary’s gaze on the infant Jesus to the star that guides over “life’s tempestuous sea”. It ended with Sure on This Shining Night, praying that our faith would shine like stars in the sky.
During the 90-minute concert, there were both secular and sacred vocal interpretations of Mother Mary through the ages.
Performer Ms Jeannette Lee said, “It was wonderful getting to work on that beautiful repertoire and taking the time to reflect and contemplate personally, and to raise funds for such a wonderful cause at the same time.”

“It was a high-quality concert! Every detail was executed beautifully – from the stage setup, Program Book, background slides to the outstanding performance of the singers. I was absorbed and moved, with joy and gratitude.”
“The night is excellent with prestigious singers on songs of our Lady.”
“Thank you Mother Mary for allowing me to enjoy a peaceful evening with beautiful songs about you, amidst the daily hassles!”
“It’s a concert filled with joy and gratitude… extremely grateful to have the presence of the almighty and merciful Lord!”
Proceeds from tickets will be donated to The Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong to support its fund-raising initiatives for church building and development. Rev Benedict Lam, Chairperson of the Fund-raising Commission, said he was thrilled when he learnt that all the tickets were fully allocated 10 days after public sales started. “It is certainly a good reminder that if we are doing God’s work, with His grace, everything will be achievable,” Rev Benedict added.
He expressed his gratitude to all those supporting the event - the performers, sponsors and donors, Tom Lee Music, volunteers offering their service in translation, graphic design, photo and video taking, lighting and sound system, stage decoration, logistics and all others that have helped put together the event.
