Events - Hundreds Schools Rope Skipping in One Accord, Church Building to Glorify God 2024-06-28

Students from Catholic Schools shall energize the Diocesan Fund-raising Commission for Church Building and Development in Joint-school Rope Skipping Charity Rally from May 13 to June 14, 2024. All parents and students from Diocesan, Religious, and Caritas schools are welcome to participate and support the event. The climax is the exciting "Rope Skipping Sets New Sustainable Development Goals’ Record Fun Day”, which will be held on June 28, 2024 at Maryknoll Secondary School (27 On Sau Road, Kwun Tong Kowloon).

One of the purposes of this event is in response to Pope Francis' address at the 2015 United Nations Sustainable Development Summit. Pope Francis called on countries to take measures to change lives and promote sustainable development. With all United Nations member states adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that aimed at eliminating poverty, reducing inequality, and establishing a more peaceful and prosperous society by 2030, the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong encourages schools to actively participate in this rope skipping event in order to promote SDG #3 - "To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages". Through rope skipping exercises, we can improve our students' physical health while at the same time developing their teamwork and social skills.

Making this event, a reality not only do we promote physical well-being, but we can also contribute to the Diocese's fund-raising efforts for church building and development. The Commission is grateful to the Catholic Education Office, the Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Schools Council, the Catholic Religious Schools Council and Caritas Hong Kong – Vocational Training & Education Service for organizing and coordinating this event. The concerted effort will surely bring a novel experience to our students on how charity and sports can mutually benefit each other.

Since 2021, the Joint-school Rope Skipping Charity Rally has received overwhelming support from students and parents of the 103 Catholic Diocesan schools. Last year, the campaign was extended to schools from the Diocese, the Catholic RCS, and Caritas-H.K. We look forward to students being able to acquire the basic techniques of rope skipping and promoting the sport to friends and relatives. We also hope they can experience the joy of giving and serving through the Diocese’s fund-raising exercise.
